Our team had the honor of serving four days last month with Chainsaws for Jesus in London, KY. In particular, we were set up in the Sunshine Hills community which took a direct hit from an EF4 killing many and severally injuring others. I personally have never seen such destruction like this before, meaning homes were flattened and possessions dispersed (if ever found). What was seen in the debris were flashes of peoples lives and memories. The survival stories coming out of this storm seemed unimaginable. It was all a reminder of what is really important in life (God, family and friends) and that everything else can be taken away by a grapple bucket and an earth mover in 2 hours time.
It was incredible to witness the numerous volunteers from the local community, along with many who had never heard of London, KY before, come together in significant numbers. Several national organizations were present, and volunteers arrived from across the country. God was truly at work in London! More assistance is needed and will be for a long time. Laurel County and the city of London have done an exceptional job managing this crisis.
Chainsaws For Jesus had a total of 5 volunteers on the ground for four days and sharpened/serviced over 125 chainsaws. It is really neat to see how God has worked through a small men's group in Nashville, TN that has lead to over 400 chainsaws sharpened and the love of Jesus shared in 9 locations over the past 9 months. There is a role for all of us to play in this big world with sharing the love of Jesus. You just got to get going doing something… Be radical and get out there!!! You are always welcome to reach out and join us for a future mission if you need that something to jump into. We would love to have more help during these times as we are now sharpening in the field which requires getting some steps in while sharpening and sharing.
Sharpening during these times are crucial as chains get dull quick with heavy usage and often end up cutting items they were not intended to be cut (ie. dirt, wood, metal, etc…). Dull chains can also be a safety issue enhancing kickbacks and lead to excessive wear and tear on the body and the saw. We are there to support those running the saws, keep them moving and share some Jesus…
